The Sheridan Center is a privately funded and operated Performing Arts Center, for community use. The priority will be to make space available to local artists and artistic groups.
The construction budget is $9 million. The Sheridan Foundation was established as a naming grant from Michael and Judy Sheridan of $5 million. David and Jane Watson, contributed $1 million. A capital campaign will be established to raise the additional $3 million.
We are asking the City of Tallahassee to contribute 5 acres of buildable land in the Northwood Center, at the corner of Tharpe and MLK Blvd as our designated site, and allow construction after a commitment of funds.
The Sheridan Center will host theatre; musical theater; concerts of music of all kinds; dance; small conferences; meetings; and events. The non-profit organizations have requested:
- Auditorium of approximately 450 seats
- Smaller flexible black-box style theatre of 150 seats
- Multi-purpose theatre that accommodate 100 seated or be used for rehearsals, meetings and receptions
The Sheridan Center will sustain itself with income from grants, patronage, rental and ticketing fees.
